Could this be a hair pin?

Post by MetalSmithy »

Inverness
Black Isle

Found this today on a stubble permission I haven’t tried for a while.

Its length is close to 11cm so a hair pin would probably be its purpose. It’s made of copper alloy and is non decorative apart from a couple of marks on its head. Being out of context I guess will make it difficult to date although there is medieval in this field so maybe it’s related.

Certainly looks like it although no idea whether it's Roman or AS (but the former I suspect). [81/]

I would say it is a Roman ligula (cosmetic scoop) https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts ... id/1098515

Get it into TT, they will be able to tell you, I have a similar one being processed and I'll share the output here. If it helps I think it is more likely to be medieval rather than roman but I'm no expert [88/]
