Found on a Roman site. Mystery object
Hello, I found this little bronze (I think) part on a Roman field, that also had Iron Age and Bronze Age activity. I would love to know what it would have been/looked like when complete. It’s quite serpent looking, but also it looks like a hoof? I am presuming it is fairly old? Many thanks for and knowledge or opinions

Really interesting find and does indeed look very old. The only insight I can suggest is that I found a copper alloy ring (possibly a harness ring) which had very similar wear on the inside, like on your object where you can see a coppery colour. The FLO said that these were wear marks from where the harness would have sat.

One of those 'definitely something ' items and certainly has some age. Looks familiar but can't place it off the top of my head

I did wonder that, certainly seems a possibility.

What’s going on with the hole on the ‘hoof’? Does it go right through?
