So many first's, including first silver!

Post by Bargeman » Sun Mar 19, 2017 7:58 pm

What a great day, I went back to my first permission again today, by the church on the hill, and I took out the XP GMP with NEL Tornado fitted and headed for the corner where I found the George 1st half penny, and in the same area today I found another old coin, but it seems too far gone to tell what it is, it has a bust facing left, although I can't make out anything else. So maybe a George 2nd Half penny. If so, that will be a first.

This is the coin on the left...

After this I headed across the field to the opposite corner interrupted only by small pieces of lead and bullet cases, but no sooner had I got to the far corner that I got a nice clean sound, and four inches down I found the coin on the right, that looks like a Victoria with a bun hairstyle? if so it is another first.
So having a good day but it would get better real soon.

Next I was heading back to the gate and home, corner to corner, this is the longest walk on the field and all uphill, again nothing much to spoil the walk, just some foil, and shottie caps. Not too far from the gate, I got a strange signal distorted but no iron buzz, so I decided to dig it, on lifting the plug, I gave the hole and plug a sweep with the GMP, and I had two signals and there in the upturned plug was a coin... George 5th half penny 1929.

And right there next to the coin was an imprint for another coin, and sure enough down in the hole was a Lizzie 2 sixpence from 1955. So happy with my find, I gave the hole one more sweep with the pointer, and sure enough I get another signal, and sticking out the sidewall was a George 6th penny, 1944. Wow my first coin spill, this is exciting, better check hole one more time, nothing, so I give the plug another sweep and bingo, another coin!
I break open the plug and I can't believe what is laying there, a silver half crown, George 6th, 1944.
My first silver coin, and what a cracker.

So I close up the hole, and give the area one more sweep with the Goldmaxx, and I get another small signal just six inches from the first hole, so again I dig it, and I can't believe it, another silver, this time my first silver sixpence, a George 5th, 1925.

Well done, nice day detecting and some good firsts for you. Coin spill was a bonus !!
Think I would go back to that spot again for another check.
Cheers,
Dave.

All coins are good and especially silver milled as they quite often turn up when I haven't found much else in the way of coins. I usually head up the hedgerows looking for my faithful George v. Good old George doesn't often let me down.
You've got some good coins there and well done ::g

Well done Bargeman! Its always huge fun to find a coin spill! And the half-crown is a handsome coin. As someone else said...go back and have another jig around....you are missing the brass thruppence, and florin from the set. Try for the full house. :D

Thanks all, it was a good day. Just a note the Victoria is 1875. And the mark on the face of the silver half crown was already on the coin when i removed the dirt. When I was. Kid I lost a Churchill crown while out playing in a local field. It will hopefully be a nice find for someone in the future.

Hi Bargeman,

spot on ::g well done....

You will soon get used to that silver sound on the GMP...if they are in your ground and you cover them well, youll get the silver.
