My first ever Saxon Coin

Post by rst33 » Mon Mar 20, 2017 6:07 pm

Evening
I went out yesterday on a ploughed field and found this coin
with XP Deus setting 2
found it around 5" deep
I would love to know a date and exactly what / who it is
I also found this bit of metal pot on the same field which i believe could be saxon
I would love to know if it is
Click photos to enlarge
Thank You

Well done on the sceat, small enough to find usually but yours is broken so you did well to winkle that out ::g

The details can make all the difference in identifying the sceat types so some clearer photos would help and if you include the images on the post rather than a link (annoying pop ups on photobucket) you may get more replies on that and the other fragment which looks interesting ::g

You could also record it with the Early Medieval Corpus at the Fitzwilliam in which case you would get a very good ID from Dr Martin Allen http://www-cm.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/emc/emc_record.html
I'm still burning you'll never put the spark out in my soul
