Far too hot for me this weekend but did manage to get out and about on pasture, which wasn't as dry as I thought. Must be because it's in Wales where it's always wet. Anyhow best find by a mile is below but struggling to place it other than being a William III crown or half crown (I would have rotated the pics but photobucket was being 'difficult'. Not sure if it's fake or not - tried the foil test but my sense of smell is appalling, are there any visual clues to determine it's authenticity. It was actually my dad who swung the coil over the magic spot so the glory belongs to him, perfect timing for Father's Day.
Settings were the usual - Garrett EuroAce with three notches taken off iron, running on full sensitivity. Coin was roughly 4 inches deep and gave a pretty good double bell signal, although had a slight wobble to the ferrous side.
Thanks all for advie,

Half Crown is 34mm for William III.
Find the Numista website handy for measurements, weight and mintage figures.
Half Crown info on p22 English coins.
Well found .
