Fragment of a cross?

Post by Philat98 » Tue Nov 14, 2017 8:22 am

This item was found 10cm below ground on an abandoned fruit farm. There is a medieval village nearby. The item weighs 165g and has a density of 9-10. The metal is silver coloured and can be scratched by steel but is brittle.
The is a small wedge of magnetic iron at the back.
Any ideas about it please?

Hi there,

Nice find ::g

I don't think it's a fragment of a cross to be honest, too irregularly shaped. Very hard to say what it is though.

Bottom right of the second picture looks like there is a groove down the side ?

If so does it go all the way round

It might be part of an old window frame.

Part of a frame might be a great shout.

Yes may be a lead window frame. The lead has got something mixed with it that has made it hard.
