Echoes of the first world war !!(lest we forget)

Post by Macroman » Thu Nov 08, 2018 6:00 pm

I detected this very poignant memento of the start of World war's a cap badge of the King's Regiment.
This regiment was formed purely from Liverpool...and was entirely manned by volunteers.
This regiment was one of the first to be sent over to France and suffered heavy losses in the course of fierce trench warfare.
It was detected with the aid of my very trustee Makro racer (red)...on very black/salty smelly sand at an approximate depth of 5 inches....(on beach mode setting,un tweaked !!
The beach where it was detected is called Penally beach (West of Tenby,West Wales.
The upper beach of the beach and sand dunes were dug out to replicate the conditions of the trenches, this can be identified if you take a walk over the sand dunes.
Many thanks for reading..and as always....Good hunting👍

That's lovely, I've had a cap badge before but nowhere near as nice that. Is it usual for finds to be that corrosion free on beaches?

Lovely find and good of you to remember all those lads sent to slaughter. I wonder how many others still lie buried beep in the soil of the Somme and elsewhere.
Thanks for sharing, a timely reminder to us all, Liam ::g

What a stunning find.. yes the echoes, though there are some still living with the aftermath of both wars.. to this day. Hard to believe but true.
