Off to flying start

Post by roamingrob » Thu Nov 22, 2018 8:39 am

Hi all, I was out last weekend on pasture fields. In the middle of my first field I found a Drone
its not one of these cheap types you can get but a expensive one a quick google and it came in between £890- 1,600. not a lot more was found a couple of Georgian coins and a horse buckles

Once home I called the farmer, not his or anyone he knows so I put message on FB local sites. No joy there. So I had a look at the on board memory card and could see the owner and where he took off from. I then located this using Google maps and went up to there. I knocked a few door with no one at home or did not know him ?. Then one person said she would ask and show a pic of the owner to her friends. I left my details with her and later that day I had a call from the owner he. He was over the moon I had found it even offering me a reward. A quick check to confirm it was his (it was) and he is picking it up today.

I was wondering if anyone else had found one..

Rob

We've seen some unusual finds on the forum over the years but a Drone has got to be one of the scarcest! Great work on identifying and locating the owner and a nice bit of community spirit shown on your part. Nicely done sir, top job! ::g Regards ss47

Great story well done.

Our club got a request to try and find a drone in a field but the grass was about 3 foot tall so we declined, the only solution we could come up with was to get a drone to fly over and look for it =))

Roaming Rob, My hat comes off to you. Really well done and well persevered. No wonder the owner was delighted. (Does he have any land?) That could be your reward.

I found one last year. The previous year someone had stuck up signs about a lost one but they were long gone and nobody that we asked knew who it belonged to. Mind you it had been out so long that it was only scrap and parts anyway. :D

;)) ;)) Never thought of that, although thinking about it if he did have a friend or relative with 10,000 acres I think he would have been flying it there, and not from a park.

I am very lucky to have 5 current permissions a mile from me ::g Thanks it made me me smile

No never found one but there are 2 and 3 helicopters in Hubbies man cave.
I know how he’d feel if he lost one ( and wouldn’t I know it ) so I have to say a huge well done for guiding it back home.
May your rewards come in the shape of gold coins :D ::g

Rob, did he explain how he came to lose it?
I've seen a few reports on detectorists finding drones and I know someone that lost a really expensive model, it just kept on flying away from him and ignored his command for it to turn 180 degrees and return to base!

Thanks, he had only just got it and took it up too high. It lost signal if you stand on the take off spot you can see how it just went straight a mile and a half before running out of powers..
Guess it must have come down slow as no damage.. one of my oddest finds to date.
