It makes you wonder

Post by cantona1 » Fri Nov 23, 2018 5:11 pm

what went on in some fields in the past doesn't it?
A week or so ago I found this sword belt hanger in one of our fields,

Then a few days later, in the same field and within a 100 yards or so I found what I think is a scabbard chape,

Finally today, same field, 50 yards from the sword belt hanger I found this lovely 16C sword hanger fitting.

I'm assuming the whole lot went together and I've re united the set after 300 - 400 years apart :D
It's a new field for us and so far it's proving to be a belter ::g
As usual, Q40 on jewellery at various depths.

Great set of finds....IF they are a set of course. It equally could be that you have stumbled upon something else! Suppose they are all unrelated apart from being deposited at the same time?
When you beetle back it will be interested to see if anything else pops up of a sword and weaponry nature....
GMP, Tesoro Invincible, wellies.

Yup, a sword or dagger would complete the set, unlikely though as this field has been ploughed every couple of years for the past thousand years or so.
