A Self ID - Roman Military Phallic Pendant

Post by Vosenos II » Sat Dec 01, 2018 8:16 pm

Hi everyone!,
I had been waiting to get my shifts out of the way to enjoy a days detecting with Cantiaci today. The forecast was 80% plus chance of rain so instead of heading off to our permission, I gathered some of my finds together and went round to Cantiaci's home for a finds photo session. As you'll have seen before, he takes the best pics by far!
Anyway he was thumbing through an Artefacts book when I spotted something that looked familiar to me (minus the suspension boss). A quick look through my finds box found the item in question. I'd always thought it was a medieval item but according to the book its a Roman Military Phallic Form Pendant!
Well chuffed ::g ::g :)

That’s why I always say, one for the ‘Just in Case’ box. It’s amazing how many times it happens when you’re looking for something else and spot something famililiar and think I’ve got one of those.

Well found. ::g

I would never have spotted the phallic symbolism or thought Roman either. But then I often miss stuff. Nice to get a match, well done ::g

This winged one was found a few years ago and nearly put in the scrap bin, it's just 7mm long.

No smutty comments please!
