2018 Totals

Post by detecttheearth » Mon Dec 31, 2018 7:09 pm

It's easily been my best years detecting although I've not had any gold like the past two years I've ticked a fair few things off my wish list. I had a few months off over the summer but did a lot this winter. I set myself a target of 100 hammered this year and have gone hell for leather this past week to get there. The last seven all came in today.

My coin totals for the year are:

104 x hammered (no Norman or Viking)
1 x Saxon penny (Offa)
2 x Saxon sceats
2 x Roman denari
200+ Roman bronzes

Happy hunting in 2019 everyone.

I had a bloody good December. A lot of hours put in and that all important luck. I also quit the drink for December which helped!

I had 10 in the last week to take my all time best year of 64, nearly double my previous best year. Not sure if it is technique, better understanding of the ground, more time out or pure luck. I do know I have a lot lower expectations next year.

Yeah I'm definitely not expecting the same results next year. I think for me the main thing has been learning my hot spots and returning to rework them after the fields have been turned over.

Well done on a fantastic Talley of hammereds and finds ::g

What you need to do now is ditch the deus and jump on the equinox 800 gravy train and get back over your fields ..you will easily double that amount :D ( sorry to the equinox converters I couldn’t resist :D ) :D

Actually, I am happy with what I have got and what I have achieved. Will a equinox get me more? I don't care as I would rather spend my time finding it with my deus. I am not going to spend my money on a possible. If I walk over it, there is a good chance I will find it with my Deus. If I don't, then I may find it next year.

I am pretty much getting fed up of this mine is better than ours. Lets hope next year has a little less of this.

The answer to that is probably... yes. :D

Well done on an extraordinary tally for the year, and here's hoping that whatever combination you're using continues to get you good finds in this new one ::g

The Deus is a good machine, especially once you have mastered it and likewise the Nox. However they have different strengths and weaknesses. ::g

Anyway I've got a spare Nox and I drive through Essex every other week or so on my way to see my mum in Norfolk. If you want to try out a Nox sometime just pm me.

Outstanding tally Joe and well done!

Totally agree with Fred: the Nox is a lovely machine if you take the time to understand it, but not the fabled ‘answer’ any more than others. I am confident that if ‘it’ is there it will find it as well or better than others. Also agree with Dave. I am nauseated by the comparisons and sniping. You are welcome to give mine a run when I am back on my feet.

My 2018 was dogged by health: a two month layoff initially, followed by three months at the crucial time for planted fields, but pleased with the results from two pastures for a ‘part’ year:

1 x Viking
2 x Roman silver
15 x Roman bronze
3 x Roman brooches
8 x hammered
7 x ‘other’ silver
A nice assortment of artefacts (dagger pommel, buckle plate, stylus, etc.)

I wish everyone the very best of hunting in 2019!

Great result for you too! Never had a Viking coin, very high on my wishlist. Happy hunting in 2019
