Ding dong a fish-scale bell.

Post by Easylife » Thu Jan 10, 2019 9:20 pm

I had an hour to spare before darkness fell so decided to have another bit of a go in one of my smaller pasture fields. I'd given it a pretty good search last year and there were not too many targets but of those quite a few Medieval weights and spindle whorls came out fairly deep. The ground condition is probably a bit more ideal now and I know that there will still be some good deep targets there. I found more targets than I was expecting to but then I was digging anything at all that wasn't just a pure iron grunt. Of those this fish-scale crotal bell was a welcome surprise as I've not dug one for a while, even though half is missing.

Another welcome stranger is what appears to be a 19mm Scottish copper turner from about 1677 though very thin and worn and blank on the reverse. It weighs just 1.35g so maybe it's not? x;

Hi easylife
I'd settle for half a bell...never even seen one x;
That's definitely a copper turner too-there will be Scotsman wanting that back ;)
