Three weeks ago i posted pictures of a black and red enamel disc brooch that i had found and was chuffed because it was a first for me.
UPDATE.
Thursday night i was at a surprise 50th party of a good friend and farmer. (the party was his surprise not him being 50) anyway his local land is all cropped at the moment but he said the electricity board have but some cables in through a wheat field, why don't you try this line its only about 100m and this would have disturbed soil from a 3-4 ft trench that had been dug and filled.
Saturday afternoon and i drove the 2 miles to the field, Rutus out and within about 1 minute first signal out came this blue and red disc brooch, i couldn't believe it. Had a few more signals some of which were encased in greensand from the depths, but mainly lead.
my friend then turned up so i washed it in a water trough and let him handle it before it went back to the safety of my pocket. I have had some good finds from this small field but this was the first roman artefact although there is an area where mainly 4th century roman coins can be found closeby in the field.
anyway i thought i would share my joy with you all so here is the blue and red one and both of them together. as per normal with my finds they went to the pub with me last night.
The black one is about 20mm and the blue one slightly larger.
Found about a mile apart from each other.

Well that's a turn-up looksold, ::g I've never likened disc brooches to busses there's a correlation there somewhere 8-| Very nice indeed to not only find two disc brooches but two that have the enamelling in such nice condition. I think I'd have one eye on the preservation of the enamel to prevent any further oxidisation (after it's been referred to your FLO).
Well done indeed ::g Regards - ss47

Thanks, they will be going to the flo, perhaps sooner rather than later.

How extraordinary, and what lovely things.

I found a simple AS disc brooch myself last week (Weetch type 18), but minus all its enamelling, so I'm jealous as hell.

Lovely brooches, glad the Rutus is working well, I have been using mine a lot lately too ::g And it must be nice to have a friendly farmer that points you in the right direction too ::g

Beautiful finds, very happy for you! I went 30 years without finding a sceatta, then found one on a very good permission near a roman town. Went back next day and found another one about 15m away. Went back a million times afterwards and found zero!
Well found and thanks for sharing, Liam ::g
