Silver and a bucket list find!

Post by Oxgirl36 » Sun Apr 14, 2019 8:08 pm

Bit the bullet today and upgraded my software to v 5.21. I need to start using the X35 or I’ll have wasted over £300!

So a new field (pasture) was my destination. There’s two public footpaths that run from where you enter the field. After doing ‘ip dip’ I chose the left hand fork and tried to get used to the extra weight of the bigger coil after using my HF elliptical exclusively for the last 6 months. I decided to stick with the Hot programme on ~18khz with reactivity at 2.5.

There are few signals on this field so the first 30 minutes just resulted in lead and one drinks can ;;z . As I got to the end of the path I was thinking this field was a complete waste of time when I started finding a couple of buttons which cheered me up. Then suddenly I got a sweet high 80s signal and out popped a nice George penny. A foot away the same signal and out came 2 more. I quickly scanned right by these but found no more.

As i carried on I went past the exit from the field and got a couple of musket balls and some very old chunky copper partefacts and some other interesting bits and bobs (not pictured) but the grass was too long to carry on. Definitely worth a trip back there once the grass is cut ::g

So returning on a different line back onto the public path another high 80s signal produced a ship half penny and then another few feet on a 79 produced a nice shilling. Checking the rest of this area on 28khz produced a sixpence and another copper. Someone must have had a big hole in their pocket x;
F4EA5AA6-1028-4E30-AF5D-99FF46315433.jpeg
Carrying on along a different line on the footpath I kept to 28khz for a bit. As I carried on I soon heard a repeatable, high but weak signal and dug out a reasonable sized plug. The soil on this path is very compacted and dry and hard work so digging deep plugs is very difficult. The signal disappeared completely. I almost just flicked the plug back but have learnt to just check it with a pin-pointer to be sure. Nothing in the bottom. Nothing as i did a first side wall sweep. A final, higher sweep sent it mad and, just visible in the side wall was a glint of something dark green.

As I gently prised the ‘thing’ out I thought initially I’d found part of a largeish nail. But soon realised it was the thing I’ve been hunting for since I started this lovely hobby. My first seal matrix!

OK it’s not in the best of condition. But I found it so I don’t really care. The loop of the top is broken. The seal itself has a face in profile. The words are impossible to read so i’ll not know what it says. But I’m still chuffed :D

Got to walk through a very interesting field on the way back to the car too. It’s planted with wheat but the (public) path that goes through the crop is littered with pottery shards - grey ware and medieval. Looking forward to that field later in the year 98;

Very nice. ::g The seal probably shows the head of John the Baptist like the one below. I think that the legend is the same too.

Well done Oxgirl36! Glad you are going 5.2 a chance! How do you feel about it now?
I have persisted for months now and really feel I am getting used to it and no longer convincing myself I would be better of with v.4... I really like it actually!

I have no idea why but I think it’s OK now =)) Thank you for encouraging me to give it another go :D

To be fair I think it’ll take me a month or so to get comfy with it I suspect. Much better than 5.1 though ::g

Really pleased for you and glad you managed to make 5.2 work I'm afraid y X35 is still gathering dust! :-L

Excellent scenes Kath. Always fun to find something on 'the list'. Of course now it will be like often happens with crotal bells...can't find one for ages and then several come along like buses. :)

I’ve found a few nice things but I have to admit to still having a container sized list :D still we can all dream.
So pleased you found something on your wish list. I’ve often said the same, not bothered that it’s not the best, it’s one and I’ve found it. Great ::g

https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts ... /id/775041
This could well be correct. Normally they will have the word CAPUT in the legend on the John the Baptist seals so knowing that, you may well be able to find parts of the word on the seal to help confirm its ID.
Its a great find and condition doesn't really matter. its the feel of the find and how the finder feels about it that really matters. ::g

Some nice finds there OG - shame the matrix is in poor condition, but, hey it's a matrix, and shows positive signs for exciting future discoveries.
On V5.2, with the X35 coil watch your GB - I find that it can be taken down lower than what Gary recommends for his ultimate program. He recommends to keep it manual at 90, but I achieve far better results taking it down to 85 - 86 - probably could push it a bit lower as well. This may well have been one of the changes that XP needed to make the machine stable after the poor 5.0 deployment.
good luck
