Yin and Yang Day

Post by J_digger » Tue Sep 10, 2019 9:37 pm

The Yang - One of our 'Old farmers' informing us he did want us to go on a recently seeded field (which is not normally a problem). Driving back towards a neighboring farm we see people detecting in the field that our Old farmer had told us we could not detect on! I was muttering to myself as I began detecting on a field next door. I spoke to my detecting mate and told him I wanted to find something that would make up for my disappointment. Not much for an hour a Medieval buckle some poor condition Roman coins..... Then bang - a short cross penny, and a minute later - a bent half groat in good condition. I am beginning to tune into my machine, we are becoming one..... Its nearly lunch time so lets have a go on our Saxon field. The field is a bit rough, but it is one of our special fields. I walk towards an area that has produced Sceats in the past, and a small disc appears in my hand - a Sceat! We stop for lunch and detecting resumes. So many pieces of lead, my back is beginning to hurt. My friend fiends a small hammered that turns out to be a Robert Bruce halfpenny, lucky him. We head back towards the car a small but positive signal yields another Sceat for me. What a day, what a hobby, the Yin is definitely back!

Lovely write-up and a great day's detecting.
I especially like how you describe when you 'become one' with your machine. Obviously as time goes on with any machine those days come by more often. But even so, there are so many variables. Mood, concentration, ground conditions...and lots more things that are hard to pin down. (You can go out next day, same land, same settings and similar weather and it just doesn't come together the same.)
I think its what sporty types call 'Being in the Zone'. You obviously were. It's a really satisfying feeling even without such terrific finds. ::g
