An unusual horseshoe.

Post by Easylife »

It measures 16cm x 20 cm and was laying at 16” deep on cultivated ground. It is what is known as an egg bar horseshoe which would have been used to correct a horses gait, due to a form of lameness, by increasing the heel's ground-bearing surface. I have zapped it and cleaned it up to a reasonable degree. Research shows that these seem to have been more popular in the US but have not found a similar UK match to help date it with any accuracy though will no doubt be post medieval. So any thoughts appreciated. ::g
