Beautiful find Dave, good tale and a nice vid - always a treat to see a find like that coming out of the soil - a warm glow and a dash of adrenalin to follow - what could be better.
Well done 😀.

As we can see again - luck often is the most important factor in detecting.
(My only one gold coin came from a field, which is basically in the nowhere and free of any finds.)

Congrats from Germany

Dave, I note that you've got both the Deus and Equinox listed in your profile. I'm sure many of us are wondering which machine you found the 4 gold coins with (and what program)?
Three with the Equinox and one with the CTX3030 before I owned the NOX, none with the Deus but I only use that as a backup now, I've only had the NOX since April this year

I have included my most common NOX settings that I use ::g

Thanks for posting the settings Dave... always interesting to see the different approaches. Quick question: do you always set the GB to zero?

No worries, yes on GB, I did lots of tests on one of my pasture sites that has an ancient sea bed under the soil and checked targets on zero and on auto and it made no difference, if anything it was worse. I haven’t tried it on the beach so don’t know if there is any difference there. I never come across many mineralised sites in the U.K. and I have dug a lot of places so don’t think it needs messing with. The other angle is even within one field the ground can change.

For me the most important settings on the NOX are recovery speed, iron bias and sensitivity. Re the later I have always found less is more, so many people run high sensitivity, I find it just amplifies the iron disproportionally more than the wanted signals.

Cheers Dave. Slightly concerned about taking your post reporting a brilliant find off topic, but just wondered about the GB setting you posted. Totally agree with your comments though. RS and IB are the key settings. GB does cause a lot of problems on iron-infested/mineralised sites like mine and I have also now settled on a setting of zero.

Apologies, and best left for another thread.

Congrats on the lovely gold hammered! Its a wonderful feeling seeing it pop out. You never ever forget. Which is just as well from my point of view because I don't take a phone with me so I enjoyed seeing you do yours. :D ::g

Totally agree with this. I always ramp it down a tad. (I always did on the GMP as well) No need whatsoever to max it out....you just end up fogging good stuff out. ...especially gold which comes in at a lower tone than silver and can easily get lost in too many iron grunts.
I have the 600 (cheapskate, me) and my settings are pretty much the same , or the equivalent, as yours (although I don't always run it in All Metal for the same reason I don't run the sensitivity too hot....especially in trashier sites)

The story of finding holes all round where the goldie was doesn't surprise me in the slightest. :))
Equinox 600, GMP, wellies.

It's all been said Dave - WOW! I thank you also for now changing my method of detecting when out on a club dig - usually if I see a number of recently dug holes I'll think the area has been done to death and will walk off in a different direction..... not any more!
