Great find indeed!

I too love the other artefacts mixed in with the coinage.
I'd be chuffed to bits with just the key!!!

I'd like to think it might have been a child burying their stuff, hope it's not the remains from the pocket and clothing of someone who came to a sticky end, but hope it is just the start of something more.

Great story and nice finds ::g

Quick update on the hoard. Went back to the site about a week later and found a small, lead, phallic pendant about 6 feet away. All items are safely with the flo and he has put a tentative date on them as 2nd century, probably Hadrian era.
Went back there today with him to do a small dig but had no luck finding anything else. All items are off to British museum next week. Cheers

Brilliant find mate,are you sure they are all bronze ;)
That was my first question. They look quite like encrusted denarii. I am also surprised to see the toggle amongst them.

Very well done. ::g

Thats a very interesting location and the finds are superb,i dont reckon its a purse loss or anything like that,but of course i could be wrong,but what is exciting is finding that key,of course it could be not related but when you have found these coins and the key and other items,then i still reckon it comes under more of a hoard related fine than a purse or casual loss.

Could well be alot deeper i think ::g

My initial thoughts too regarding the encrusted silver denarii.

Very well done.
2018 hammies. = 97 (including quarters, halves and broken) not including the Saxon
Saxon = 4
Celtic. = 1
Silver denarius = 1
Gold ring. = 0

Someone else wondered if they could be crusty silvers but far too big to be denarii. Pretty sure they're copper asses.
