"So next steps.... Advice please.... We are planning to hire/purchase a 'hoard hunting machine' or surveying equipment in hope of giving some insight as to whether or not something else lies below. Another option is we scrape back the surface (from flos advice) so fingers crossed the landowner is up for it. Either way, I cannot wait... It has been absolutely fantastic to have gone through this... it really is the stuff of dreams! "

Has the farmer got a machine with a ditching bucket you/he can use? Scrape 6" or so at a time, thoroughly check the new depth & also the spoil. ::g

Be lucky ::g

Thanks so much for all your comments and kind words!

Clod shots and pictures of all together should be on here in the next couple of days - the joys of country living and appalling internet.

We'll be back on site this weekend - cannot wait!

Terrific too see them all together,i still reckon others are also still around in that area,they may take some finding but has all the hall marks of something bigger.

Out of interest what machine/s will you be using over the weekend the same as when you found the original loose coins or something more substantial ??

Same machines - the trusted Deus!

I've been in touch with Gary at XP who has advised to go with the Gold Field Program whilst amending a couple of settings to get maximum depth - I've since been swatting on youtube videos!

We were tempted to go all big with the Whites Tm 808 but held back after the feedback on here / Gary.

Good luck. Make sure you have decent pictures of each coin as the system has been known to "cherry pick" from hoards and some Sillys can be remarkably rare. ::g

Morning all,

Little update for you.

Spent the day on site yesterday (conditions were absolutely perfect), went over the area numerous times, first with the deus fast mode and then using Garys advised gold program (which took a bit of getting used to). It worked well and our total is now 61... Madness!

This find has taught me so much and it pains me to think about some of the things we may have missed on other permissions (as well as this field), as most of the coins from yesterday started as incredibly faint / trashy signals - which turned crisp once we got down to them.

Popping these into the FLO this week and then back again at the weekend!

Cheers all ::g

Well done on your hoard and great write up. Well handled. My top tip - search in all metal - dig as many iron signals from the area as you can! This will do two things - 1) if there is a larger deposit it may be deep and might register as an iron signal (some of the bits from my viking hoard did!). 2) Clearing out the iron may well reveal more coins that are being masked by the iron. You also may be surprised at what else comes up! Good luck I'm sure there's a lot more there! ::g ::g ::g

Well done you. Out of interest, what were Gary's suggested settings for this scenario?
