Weekends best bits

Post by Mac91 » Sun Nov 12, 2017 8:56 pm

Out a couple of hours on Friday and another few yesterday on a new permission. Used to be a field that held football matches and horse racing. Plenty of activity, lots of Victorian/George V/VI coppers to keep me entertained.

These are the best bits, my first George III silver, nice little buckle and a miraculous medal. Also part of a Charles IV silver reale turned up which I wasn't expecting. The Round bit of silver is quite flimsy, no idea what it's off.

Nice set of silver there - sounds like a cracking field to detect.

Thanks all. Good field alright, I'm certain I've missed a lot more, was only wildly rambling about. One part completely undetected yet as well.

That's the lot there Dave, About a dozen pennies, handful of half pennies and a few others. Couple of nice coins from the Republic as well, albeit some the harp is only just visible. Nearly all range from Victorian to George VI. The field was used for football and horse racing in the first half of 1900s.

A few earlier coins turned up too, but in poor condition. One I can just about make out a bust on which I think is Charles II (another detectorist with me found a Charles in slightly better shape). Also another Hibernia coin with the harp - the shape of the harp means likely earlier than Georgian; maybe late 1600s

Thanks for the photos of the coppers, all in that was a very good days detecting, certainly a lot of spectators there over the years.
Well done ::g

Love the cut pillar dollar. May be an American connection as these cut Spanish coins were much more commonly used in the early US. ::g

Interesting point Fred, as another detectorist with me happened to find a silver US dime in the same field
