Couldn't wait for first light, here's what I found

Post by Jamesy636 » Sat Feb 17, 2018 6:36 pm

Update:
Wow that was a long day! Majority was in fine sunshine too, which made me happy. I think that is the longest I have "swung" for and my arms and legs are totally knackered now. 10 thousand onus steps recorded on the phone.
Anyway it was a good day all in all, only 2 coins, 1 being a George ship half penny and the other was a goner. Spoons (that I found last Sunday) what I think could be a silver button? Looks different to the normal played buttons, scratched the back and it was shiny. Who knows probably not?
I also thought for a second I had a Roman coin fragment, but now it cleaned up its looking doubtful.
A weird flat spike type thing with roping on the edges. A copper hollow ball, maybe an earring?
I spent 4 hours scanning the field and was starting to get a tad fed up when I had a phone call from a work college, asking me to pop down the road where he is working as the customer wanted some advice, "in return you can wonder round his woodland with your detector"
No problem see you in 10. A quick 5 minute natter and I was out in the woodland, not all of it was detectable but after 5 minutes scanning the walkways I found a Wiltshire Regiment badge, I believe from a cap and in the next hole adjacent was a Young Farmers Club badge. Very happy with those!
Oh and I hit the shotgun cartridges after that big time. I've barely scratched this woodland and I'm free to go back whenever I like! :))

Cheers

Jim

Ahh a foot patten, just googled it, that's definitely it. Found another one of these the other day thinking it was horsey or stirrup related! They wore thes over their shoes back in the day to escape the mud, what must they have looked like! =)) ::g

Good day out..
The tiny buckle looks to be a good post medieval one
And the big pewter spoon looks pretty old
Maybe similar age ish to the buckle?
Lot of potential for a sparkler or two in that field...
And the wood sounds promising too.

I did like the look of the small buckle and that old spoon is definitely different, so that's what pewter looks like ::g

Has anyone got any idea of the age of the d shaped buckle bottom centre of picture? I’ve found one very similar and it looks quite old.
