nice big silver hammered sixpence

Post by sidaces » Sun Mar 11, 2018 7:41 pm

Hi everyone, we went back out today on our North Wales permission. We have covered it already so I took my gpx5000 to try and find the deeper targets. On my third hole I pulled this lovely hammered coin out. The coin was around 13 inch deep on ploughed stubble. I think it's a first year mint of a silver hammered sixpence, Elizabeth 1561 ::g its nice and big just a touch bigger than a 10pence piece just thought I would share pics as I love looking at everyone else's so here it is. Thanks.

13 inches is an impressive depth, was the ground firm or fluffy, you said it was ploughed, not much found at those depths that's for sure, you must have had the perfect settings and conditions with the coin in the best position for picking it up

Lucky being that depth it's not moved around that much and kept the great detail and condition

Regards Steve

Ground was firm and very low minrilization in that area so was punching deep on even small pieces of lead which surprised me ::g

I'm also using the DD 18inch coil that's why I was surprised about the deep small lead pieces but it was getting them ::g
