the grass is NOT greener

Post by Me and my boy » Mon Mar 12, 2018 8:03 pm

The truth about the grass isn’t greener.
So I’ve had a really good field that has produced a few hammies and is nice and clean apart from a few .22 rim fire rounds.
The field over the fence has been tempting me and I could see hammies being littered all over it
So I plucked the courage up and went and found the farmer( who I’ve never met).
Very nervously( for some reason) went into his office and asked to see him.
He was a lovely man who freely gave me permission straight away without any questions. He showed me some lovely finds that others have found and some beautiful fossils from the land.

Well I was rained off work so decided to give it a try. Now it looked fantastic and is right next to a mill.

BUT.......

I walked on it and straight away found the worst ever news. Baring in mind I’ve wanted this field for an Age.

....... it is cram full of blooming GREEN WASTE😩😩
And to top it the rain went through my waterproofs and even soaked my boxers.

So every trip isn’t full of hammies.the best I found was a falling apart euro coin
Next time 👍😀

Ah, what? To get a nasty surprise like that is such a shame. Is it possible (though time-consuming) to work your way through the waste in order to get to any potential good stuff, or is it too riddled with rubbish?

I know of someone who had a good Roman field which was rendered instantly undetectable by green waste and I hope it's not as bad for you.

That's a shame but I find green waste is usually unevenly spread so some areas are not too bad. Always a delight to find those cheeky little flat pack fixings - not! :D

Hopefully not, but the contractors that it probably came from dump their Toot everywhere. Luckily though the farms huge, but I’ve only asked on this field so far. So will be back to try it one more time in the dry and will have a bit more patience if its not hoofing it down like today.

I think I read the the story of the Roman field that got the green dump all over it and wrecked it.
I must have half a kilo of the toot from today in my finds bag and can’t see it ending. I’ll definetly try again as I’m not going to give up that easy.

I want to cry for you. Hope it’s limited to this one field at least, ideally just part of it x;

Shame that some of those people who like to moan about what we ‘take’ from fields aren’t as bothered about what others dump there.....

The whole fields infested. I just did another 1/2hour but it’s awful.
