How do I go about making this flat

Post by hackneygaz » Mon Dec 02, 2019 8:23 pm

After going my finds this weekend. I came across this. After getting the mud off thinking it was scrap to begin with, turns out to be a nice little pendant, made of copper has a ribbon top with remnants of blacks and greens after looking through jewellers magnifiers and looks to be a bird poss swallow bottom right.
Apologies for for photo quality.

African or European swallow ?

I'll leave others to give you instructions on straightening, flattening, hammering, sources of pneumatic implents of great strength that are capable of origami and so on :D

I've had some success straightening a Copper Brooch and a couple of rather mangled Copper spoons by annealing them, but you need to keep in mind that it might just go wrong and the patina will almost certainly be ruined.

I held the items over a gas flame until they began to glow, then dropped them into cold water. I repeated this a few times and I was able to gently straighten them. You might need to check for any fine cracks/fractures as they could fail.
