Gold ring

Hi all,out today and found what i believe to be a gold ring,only problem is it is half encased in tar.Does anybody have any tips on how to soften the tar up for removal,cheers for any help HH Neil

Best bet is turpentine. And you'd best get us a picture after as I'm intrigued to see what you've got B-)

I'd gently heat it (outside) until the ring comes free and then use turps to clean it up. ::g

Thanks for replies good people,just an update,after looking through an eye glass there is a green stone in the ring but the substance around it is a resin not tar,cut a piece off and heated it under the grill,it softened the substance then set solid again when cooled.Am going to take it to the jewellers to have a look at. cheers HH Neil

Great find.....will be interesting to see the cleaned up version.
