Yeah WOW! The guy who found it was Paul Coleman from my home town... Southampton. Apparently Paul had trouble scraping the money up for the petrol to go to the Dig... his Son and a friend helped him out. Lucky, lucky man :)

I was due to go on that Xmas Weekend Wanderers Dig... but my buddy and myself decided to do the Burford Dig in Oxfordshire instead. Oh well, next time perhaps. :-&

They had a 100 detectorist's on that Wanderer's dig... I bet its ten times that number next time LOL

Next time your going out Paul... their is a seat in my 4x4 for you. Perhaps some of your luck will rub off :) Congratulations anyhow... ::g :D B-)

What's the latest? Are there any rare mints, hitherto unknown moneyers etc present. :-/

Cheers

I wonder if they're from the Buckingham mint, around about 975 A.D.? As a recent new detectorist I know nothing really about coins but am local so will be intrigued to find out.
It seems funny, after looking at the pictures, that they ended up in a disposable Sainsbury's bag - good recycling!

The few reverses I've seen were London coins. ::g

700 of the 5200 have been looked at so far one excessively rare penny with a value of £60,000 has been identified ::g ::g

I wonder how many other rare examples will be in the other 4500 :D

700 coins looked at since December we might get to the know the full story by the end of the year or next ;)

... news like this does help detecting I've been contacted by some one after seeing the news and asked me to have a gander in is paddock.. ::g
The find and all that goes with it is a fantastic advert for MD ... and rallies. I point out to my land owners that responsible detectorists do it by the book, and bring in the fact that the organisers already had an Archi on site when the hoard was discovered. Its compelling and impressive stuff.

I remember that a founding fathers coin was found not long ago.... widely reported to be worth £1million, and eventually sold for just £5k mmmmm.
