It almost looks like a crown on an epaulette, worn on the shoulder normally and part of a military uniform, what's the material that it's on?

I didn't do specific gravity test. Looks like copper alloy to me

Agree with Cantona it is shaped like and epilette but obviously too small ... if it is a crown it's similar to the army version .... maybe a collar stud (there would have been teo), or a cap badge insignia ... the fabric having rotted away leaving the backing plate.
