Lost Engagement Ring - Bromley Kent
Lost Engagement Ring - Bromley Kent
Hi There,
I am hoping you may be able to help me please.
My wife lost her engagement in a Children's Sand Pit in Bromley on Saturday 6th May.
The exact location is:
We have put posters up, scoured the pit, asked the Police etc etc. We even hired a detector yesterday but obliviously we are novices.
If any of you can provide help or advice it would be greatly appreciated. My wife is totally distraught as you can imagine.
Thanks
Wayne

Re: Lost Engagement Ring - Bromley Kent
Bit of help needed with this.
I have been in contact with Wayne
Seems the the sand pit has a base that is covered in steel rivets, could be pop rivets.
Of course the detector he hired picked everything up.
The ring is platinum and has a pink sapphire, my question is do you think a detector could tell the difference between the rivets and the ring.
Guess if they are just steel rivets, then yes
But
It they are pop rivets would it still be able to tell the difference, pop rivets are steel and Ali.
I not sure my Fisher CZ-5 would, think it might need something with vdi numbers.
Any thoughts on this.
Thanks
John

Hi, how deep is the sand pit? Maybe if you raise the coil it may eliminate the problem of the rivets, also place a similar ring at differing depths to see if the rivets again are a problem.Greenlaningxt wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2017 12:28 pmBit of help needed with this.

Re: Lost Engagement Ring - Bromley Kent
I met Wayne on sat morning and proceeded to the sandpit .. very tricky .. the sand pit has huge bolts around the border .. it was around 10'deep and the base plates were sealed together with what seemed to be lead .. my machine was going wild .. Wayne had a matching type ring that we buried so I could get an idea of target id as to discrim everything outside that target range .. we searched for several hours to no avail .. did see a cheeky squiral jump into a child's buggy and leave with a bread stick ..
Wayne was 'very' greatful' of the help and advised that the service and replies on the thread were great

Jeff,
Great job, at least you tried, would be a challenge for any machine given the conditions

Re: Lost Engagement Ring - Bromley Kent
Thanks everyone for your help and especially thanks to Jeff for coming up to help on Saturday morning.
We did have a sieve and did sieve a fair bit but to no avail.
As Jeff said the base of the pit is the challenge.
Short of removing all the sand and sieving it I do not think there is much more that can be done unfortunately.
Once again, thanks everyone for your help and advice.

Re: Lost Engagement Ring - Bromley Kent
Buy a detecting sand scoop. Have a trawl with that. Much quicker and more effective than a sieve as the holes are a lot bigger and its designed for the job.
GMP, Tesoro Invincible, wellies.
Re: Lost Engagement Ring - Bromley Kent
Hello all,
I thought you would like to know someone found the ring and called is last night. We now have it back! We had put lots of posters round the park and it paid off!
Thanks again for all your help!
