Just recently my Xterra 705 has started to turn itself off when I lay it down to locate my target. Has anyone else suffered this? could it be a loose connection? can I do anything about it? it turns back on immediately but its just a bit worrying if it switches off whilst swinging and I don't notice!!

Just an idea as I'm not familiar with the workings of the '705' but there are detectors that have a 'tilt' switch fitted to turn off the audio when the machine is placed horizontal. Could your's perhaps have been fitted with such a device? Hope you get it resolved whatever the reason.
Edit: It's worth checking the security of the battery connections.
A disservice is no service at all.
