All metal or discrimination.
All metal or discrimination.Hi peeps, just out of curiosity for those of you with the 705 do you search in the all metal mode or do you use discrimination? I generally use pattern 1 but have read somewhere that you get better seperation in all metal.Your thoughts would be appreciated please.

Re: All metal or discrimination.I prefer to run AM whenever possible. Not for the separation as much as just that I want to hear ALL that is down there, and if anything is discriminated the chances of trash objects hiding a good find amongst it goes up.

Re: All metal or discrimination.Yep, AM 2 tone and you won't go to far wrong

Re: All metal or discrimination.Just got one myself and still getting to grips with it. Why 2 tones? I thought 4 would be better?

Re: All metal or discrimination.I have only had my machine for 3 weeks but I have been out with it 5 full days detecting in that time , I have found and I now use AM 99 tones (which is actually 23 tones) lets me hear eveything thats down there, I have modified disc 1 with just -8 notched I flick between AM and prog 1 for iffy signals to check.
The area i am detecting is a show ground area with multiple signals on every sweep I find it Ieasier to use this way coming from using a Cscope cs990xd with its non motion variable audio its an easier transfer to motion type for me. Is there a benefit to using 2 tones AM? i would think 4 tones is better as some of the low tones on 2 tones may be a small silver hammy , 4 tones would be better than 2 as it will give you another tone in the lower end of the scale if you find the 99 too noisy. Just my honest opinion, loving the x-terra 705, ![]() 1 Gold ring 2 silver rings, £50 in modern coinage, (not including coppers) silver sixpence and silver shilling, loads of eraly 1900,s pennies and half pennies, in 5 days on 1 permission. Re: All metal or discrimination. The reason for two tone is simply down to the choices you have while detecting....ie. "dig or don't dig".
What do you do when you get the other two tones in 4 tone? "sleep on it" and "only dig if not raining" ![]() The numbers on the XT's are pretty reliable so two tone and a glance at the screen is all you need IMHO but I've had a cut half come in on -2 so for those it doesn't matter how many tones you use it's how the numbers jump. ![]()

Re: All metal or discrimination.IMHO i agree with chef, two tones to me is less ambiguous, you either dig or don't dig. To me too many tones just totally confuses the signal but everyone is different.

Re: All metal or discrimination. Its each to his own i guess, like i said i use the 99 tone setting you use the 2 tones, i am used to the variable tones of the cscope having used it so long its easier for my poor little head to understand ![]() However you use it its a great bit of kit. Do you find the prospecting mode more accurate for pinpointing? Thanks for the tips. ![]() GL & HH Kind regards Leigh ![]() DetectingDorset

Re: All metal or discrimination.Who knows Leigh, maybe you'd like 3 tones.
It partly depends on where you' like the tone breaks to be. This chart shows where they are. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff67 ... kChart.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If you slow down, you'll achieve a more harmonious outcome.
Re: All metal or discrimination. Many thanks for that, detecting tomorrow so I am going to do some experimenting, i have been using the 99 tones as some one recommended it cant remember who now? and its seemed logical after using a variable tone non motion Cscope,(high tone good low tone bad).
Looking forward to trying these things out. GL & HH Leigh ![]() DetectingDorset

Re: All metal or discrimination.I am new to the 705 too so have no long term wisdom to impart,but....if the numbers and tones jump around and aren't all in the negative from all angles, dig it.A deep 3/4 whole roman brooch went into my pouch last week when i decided not to just walk on this time.I have probably missed a few nice things in the last month but now i know better

Re: All metal or discrimination. You know......that's what I like most about the 705.......there is a myriad of different setup combinations to experiment with. Change frequency, change coils, change GB Offset, change modes, play with the numbers of tones, etc.... And each change has it's use. Or, it can be virtually all automatic if you wish. You can tailor it to the user, the site, and the targets sought. IMO, for the money the 705 is the most flexible/versatile/capable machine out there. ![]() If you slow down, you'll achieve a more harmonious outcome.
Re: All metal or discrimination.I use a Laser Rapier, so not the same machine as you but often run with the pinpoint turned on, which in affect is AM. When I get a signal, I will turn it off, then go over it again to decide if it is worth digging. I mainly do this if a field is really quiet, that way I tend not to miss any possible fined, I get a bit of junk but thats half the fun I think.

Re: All metal or discrimination.Hi Steve I run the threshold so as it’s just a feint background hum and the sensitivity as high as you can without the machine “chattering “. Hope this helps and good luck imho you have a fabulous machine.
