I tried v5.2b, as it was meant to sort everything out (erratic and noisy coil with ghost signals) but it was a disaster.
I went back to 4.1 again.
So, considering my elliptical coil and v4.1 were finding me some great stuff and was very happy with it, why attempt another go at v5 anything? Well only because I have an X35 staring at me shouting why have you spent over £300 on a coil you aren’t using? Indeed, why am I? So with a pasture permission, that I think has deeper finds on it, I uploaded v5.2 on Friday.
I also, as a test, uploaded the ultimate programme which I moved to 4.3khz and added boost. I also saved the hot programme (my normal detecting programme) again at 4.3khz with signal boost. I threw on the X35 coil.
What did I find out? Well the hot programme is impossible to use with this coil. It will send you completely mad in less than a minute. It is very, very, very noisy. It is horrible

But with the ultimate programme it is useable. And actually I settled in with it very quickly. It seems to amplify big iron noises. But equally coins are blow your ears off loud. I was finding edwardian pennies at a good ‘height of a pointer’ depth with very, very strong signals. It is still sparky but not annoyingly so.
I didn’t put the elliptical on to try it with v5.2 but it behaved ok with the beta version so I don’t think it’ll be an issue.
So if you have an X35 try the Ultimate programme. I suspect the software will be further refined, it certainly needs it to allow other stock programmes like Hot to be used.
I will leave it on v5.2 for now and see what I think as I use it a bit more. For big deep targets the X35 is impressive. I note I dug not a single small target though. Might just have been this field but i suppose with such a low frequency it is to be expected. When i get the time I’ll do an area once with one coil and then go over it with the other. It’ll be interesting to see what they both find. Horses for courses and all that.
Still love my elliptical coil best though
