V5.1 so far so good

Post by dep1699 » Mon Aug 06, 2018 10:53 am

I have been out yesterday with my updated v5.1 Deus light. So far it work fine as usual. I notice that tones (hot program) are slightly more harsh respect to 4.1. However, I am not sure if this is due to extreme dry conditions (and chalc soil) or the fact that I was fiddling with reactivity (as light user I never used it before so I may have chosen the wrong reactivity for that field).

Am I right in thinking I don’t have to update my hf coil, just my old 11”coil, remote and head phones. If I do update.

Not sure about that you may need to re-enter pair it. Yesterday a friend lend me his 13" (black), it was not updated to 5.1 but it works fine.

I have downloaded the update to my laptop, just waiting on everything to recharge before updating. The website says no need to update hf coils.

When I bought my deus lite from detecnicks it did not come with the single usb lead only the triple.
And then when I later bought the remote that did not come with the lead either. I have a Garmin lead with the relevant ends so I hope that works.

Right now my remote is plugged into the laptop. The remotes screen is blank apart from update in a box in the center of the screen and a back icon in the bottom right.
It has been like this for a few minute with nothing else happening on the remote or laptop.

Does that sound right.

I found it pretty stable when I went out yesterday. The sounds seem harsher, but quieter other than that, I can't say I noticed a difference !

I haven't gone to V5.1 yet, but the harsh tones are intriguing.

I wonder if XP might eventually introduce more customisation options for how the tones actually sound on the Deus, like you can with some other machines.

That is my impression too. It seems to work as usual apart from a bit of harshness which is greatly compensated by the possibility to access to expert menu for light users.

Look I don't know if it's real harshness or just yesterday ground conditions, and anyway nothing that bored me, it was something a little bit more than a sensation if I can describe it like that.

Woz it due to he went from tones on a lite with ws4 to tones via a controler? Just wondered wether hzs are higher avaible on controler than just head phones

I'm still 4.1 but had occasional "coil missing " come up on the horseshoe so maybe 5.1 might sort that too.

If you dont intend on adding a X35 coil anytime soon and run with a control unit so not worried about updating the headphones is there any real purpose for updating?

Seems to me that is the reasons for the V5 update and no other changes, saying that some manufacturers make silent improvements in updates to fix problems and fair play to XP as it is free again so well done for the support.

I really want an x35 11”coil, but then what to do with my standard 11”coil,
If it did not have an internal battery I would be happy to mothball it.

So I can hang out with the cool kids at organised digs, or hob nob with the snobs :D

I was once on a dig with my at max when I got talking to someone who said “ a lot of the blokes here spend a lot of money on there kit but but a lot still do alright with basic detectors like your Garrett” before walking off.
I did not know if it was a back handed compliment or a well dressed put down. :))

Don't pay much attention to what anyone say's, but that was a genuine honest compliment and he was dead right. Buying more expensive kit does not guarantee any more finds as they just need to be there to be found. I have the std 11" coil and see no good reason to buy the x35 as it won't find me any more, though the higher frequency may be useful on the beach for finer chains etc, and I see you already have a PI. On a rally or elsewhere the std 11" is really all you need. If you're still keen on an x35 coil then the 9" would be a better choice to compliment your std 11", reason being on iron infested ground the smaller size and 26khz will provide much better target separation. But it is not essential at all as the std 11" still does ok.

Yes I know, hence why I said in the post about not being worried about updating headphones if you have the control unit..

I have the 11" original coil and the 9" HF but might well update if users come back with positive feedback, if anything just to keep up with software..
