Whites "TDI SL" on UK beaches

Post by Digemdeep » Sun Jul 09, 2017 11:19 am

Has anyone used the Whites "TDI SL" on UK beaches. (not interested in info on TDI or TDI Pro)
If so, what is your experience of it?
Stability of threshold?
Depth on various targets including gold?
Tricks and tips.
Do you find that depth suffers as batteries run down, as some claim?
Any and all info would be most welcome, to help with my decision.

Thanks

TDI isn't a big seller in the UK except for the audio its exactly the same as the "gold scan 5" by Eric Foster the farther of the PI

A good few years ago I owned a TDI Pro. I found it to be an excellent detector on the wet sand. After owning the TDI for a year or two, a well known company introduced a new multi frequency detector which I purchased. I tried the new machine on the beach wet sand and was impressed, I found a glory patch and retrieved a good number of coins rings etc. The area was quite small and I cleaned up with the new machine till I had ran out of signals. As an after thought, I went back to the car and swopped over detectors, picking up the TDI I returned to the patch. Well! The patch just came alive again! It was a valuable lesson for me.

Later I upgraded from the TDI Pro to the GPX-5000 which I still use.

My tip is to read the manual through and through and get out on the wet sand and experiment by adjusting the settings yourself. You need to be in a position where you know what is going to happen when a control is adjusted and if other controls require adjustment as a result.

Don't get on the forum much but I use a tdi sl on the beach, and yes it's a good machine for depth but I only use it on the wet, too many targets on the dry, it would drive you nuts digging alloy cans and ring pulls.
