i hope this is not a silly question ,but how do you pinpoint with a xp gmaxx

X-cross the target. And maybe while you're learning, put down a marker on the ground to help improve your technique. When I use a marker, I use a circle of card cut from a cereal box, about 60mm diameter. If you lose one, it's harmless and will biodegrade eventually.

Try this, slooooooooow the sweep right down and try and "circle" the find until you just get a very faint signal, don't be afraid to raise the coil slightly either to narrow the response, the object will be right under the centre of the coil, this work very well even on deep targets. Alternatively and for targets you suspect are of a reasonable size and fairly shallow, draw the coil off the signal until it just disappears off the front centre edge of the coil, then dig!
