I hope it's ok to reply to such an old post but the topic seems relevant. I'm thinking of getting the same Mars coil for my ADX 250. Would Spade or anyone else recommend this having used one, or would I be better of with a similar SEF, NEL or the XP stock 11". I've currently got the standard 9" and am looking for better all round performance mainly for fairly quiet pasture.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

No problem replying to the 'old' post the OP is still active and liable to respond soon. I expect other members with experience of the coil's performance will add to the thread too.
Good Luck - Regards ss47

Hi, the coil is ok you get more coverage and a bit more depth.
I also thought the machine sounds a bit different and I dug more coke because of that at first.
The cable is a lot longer and it doesn't need a coil cover and its a bit tight fitting it to the stem.
Thats what i thought anyway, i enjoyed using it found a hammered coin with it. ::g

Hi Spade,I've have used the Mars TIGER coil for a couple of years or so on my Makro Racer (red) and found it to be a brilliant, sturdy, and very responsive coil + extra depth achieved.
Wise choice !!...and I wish you good hunting.. ::g

Hi, I finally decided to get a NEL Thunder coil for my XP ADX 250. It arrived yesterday so am looking forward to trying it out. It's very wet this morning so will probably start with some air tests inside.

Well I managed to do some air testing inside last night. The Thunder coil is nearly two inches deeper than the stock 9" for my ADX for most things.
Although nearly two inches deeper on a full hammered there was not any gain with a cut half. Low frequency machines aren't supposed to be great for very small finds although people still seem to find these. Interestingly there was nearly two inches more on a Victorian silver threepence which is pretty small.
I was very pleased that there was also around two inches more on a gold engagement ring.
Now just need to get out and see how this translates to long buried objects. I'm pretty sure it will do a good job on most things I hope to find. If I come across a site where I think there may be cut quarters I might have to look out for a goldmaxx power.

I have a thunder coil on my at pro and it does add depth and coverage while still being very easy to pin point with. I was using it when I found my first and only roman coin which is pretty small.
The only drawback over the standard coil is the added weight can become all to apparent after several hours of use.
