Have I bought an XP Gold Maxx power or?

Post by Oldman2 » Mon Sep 17, 2018 1:24 pm

Really very new to detecting, this is my first machine. Saw a local advert for Xp goldmaxx power metal detector.
Went and saw it working and at a very good price I bought it, but now im not sure its that model.
I still got a good deal even if its not a GMP but I need to clear up what exactly I have please.

Image Thats the front panel.

The stick on labels each side of the control box say XP gold max power.

Any info please.

Yup, looks like a Goldmax, operates at 18khz. The Gmax works at a lower frequency of 4.6khz. I think it's the slightly older model than the current model, which has a slightly different control panel graphics. There's a test run with it at http://www.garysdetecting.co.uk/goldmax.htm

Got a 9.5/10 score, so a nice machine! Hope you find lots with it!

Don't worry you definitely have a Goldmaxx power. I have one right here and it has the same front on the control panel. ::g and V4 is up to date software too.

Sorry but I stole that picture, mines identical to that but maybe not quite as shiny!
It came with the standard 9" covered coil, bottom tube and cable, plus an SEF 12x15 covered coil with its own bottom tube and cable for easier swop's.
It also had a control box cover and set of red wired headphones.

I must just say yet again I am not unhappy with my purchase even if its not the GMP I thought I was buying, for the price I paid im sure I have value once I learn how to use it.

Thanks all for the welcome to the forums and the swift replies.

Thanks for the replies, so its not a "power" and the V4 in the battery box is just a coincidence and not the V4 later software?

So this leaves me with 2 questions, which sub forum of XP should I be posting it re this machine?

As its a Goldmaxx (no power) this sub forum would seem to be wrong, but the Gmaxx was a lower frequency machine was it not? So the Gmaxx forum isnt right. Leaves me as billy no mates with no home to go to ;)

My other question once I find a home is..As I live right near the beach I did intend using this on the beach but reading since owning leads me to believe that its only any good in dry sand, all my beach detecting will be wet sand. If its going to work on wet sand has anyone got some settings they use please?

Frankly, both the GM and GMP are as much use as a chocolate teapot on wet sand. You can try turning the sensitivity way down but even then it is very difficult and not much fun. Stay on the dry.

Take your time and be patient is all I will say :)

Iv been using the goldmaxx about 3 months now have to say once you really dial your ear into the tone pitches you will find some good stuff in the right place I’m sure of it.

I totally lost confidence in being able to use it on the local beaches, which is all I have atm with no permissions, so after the briefest of sessions in the garden I elected to put it up for sale and buy something else that would do what I wanted and more. Not sure I'm allowed to mention what I bought in this sub forum so I will add it to my sig.
Thanks for the welcome and advise :)

That's a great pity as these models are first class on inland sites. Good Luck with your new machine which presumably will be hitting the beaches anytime soon ::g Good Luck - Regards ss47
