Headphone Jack Not Waterproof?

Post by detectorman5050 » Fri Jul 06, 2018 8:11 pm

I often detect in rock pools etc, and it just struck me today, is that headphone jack on the CTX waterproof!?

I've not fully submersed the machine in water, but did notice some water around the opening of the headphone jack. I tend not to use headphones, and on the rare occasion I do, they tend to be bluetooth.

After a quick search, I read someone suggesting that it's not waterproof, which if true is a bit of a concern.

you need to remove the 1/4" jack puck from over the battery housing and use headphones with an 8 pin M12 male plug in order to make the CTX water proof, its the only way im afraid :-L

I never had any trouble with using the CTX with the WM10 unit in pools and rain but I never submerged either on purpose. ::g

Fred there is only 1 way to make the CTX waterproof and thats by following what i said in my last post.

i never use my WN10, i connect my phones straight into the 8 pin socket, my unit is protected B-)

And I never walked away from my machine only to rapidly discover that I was stll attached to it. :D Fortunately I never had any problems with either a CTX or a WM10 unit, water related or otherwise, either. ::g

Yes Fred, indeed you have been fortunate, but Remember "your ctx is not waterproof" unless you follow the directions in my 1st post and your WM10 is never waterproof or rainproof unless it is sealed in a water tight container.

Thanks for the various replies. I am glad I asked, I naively presumed that the whole unit was waterproof. Anyway, I know now, and can avoid any accidents happening!
