It's really strange that he never came across such a problem. I bet most of us experienced this problem once or twice... First time it happened to me on rally and I thought that it's because of many other detectors around, but second time I was all alone in the field. And both times it happened when I switched CTX first time in the morning...

Thanks Oliver. One things for sure, if it comes back with " we can't find a problem" then it'll be going the journey. For 2 grand I don't need a machine that works when it feels like it.

Just a little update. Its still on test as they can't recreate the problem which is a little worrying as it was going nuts all day. Hopefully something will give and show itself before long :(

I dont suppose it could have been the other ctx upsetting it, or any other machine for that matter?
Maybe your mobile was roaming the networks looking for a signal?
Were you near any mobile masts that were maybe overactive?

I've Tected with him every week and had no problems but did spend the rest of the day away from him jus in case but same thing.
No power lines or nothing. Have tected this field before and got 3 hammy's with no prob's.
Always carried my phone with me in the same pocket away from the wireless controller and its been fine
We tried 3 different field half a mile away and was still falsing on a signal
Only thing it could be is the machine itself :-/

might have been fixed with the bumps in transit, like when you're tv is on the blink and the obvious solution is to hit the side of it :)

That's prob the case although I do think its the coil and water problem. Last time I used it before dig was in the gulley pool's on the beach, two days later on dig it went bananas

UPDATE

Another quick update from Joan Allen's
It was put on test all day wed, worked fine
It was retested in water all day thurs, worked fine
It was retested today and went total nuts. Falsing all over the place ::g. Least I now know I'm not going mad lol.
So its been sent onto minelab for in depth tests to try and find out why.

All very sad.
Bit like Our burglar alarm.
It plays up when we set it and get the engineer in.
He tries it and its ok the next time we try to use it it malfunctions again. ;;z
DD will sort it out for you.Jerry.

Doing extensive testing rather than just a cursory test or 2 & saying they can't find anything wrong.............it'll be interesting to see what Minelab say :-/

Hopefully you'll be reunited soon Tomo ::g ::g
