Well, PI machines excell in beach conditions
No discrimination as such so you will be digging everything
Apparently you can train your ears to hear subtle differences which help in your decisons
Apart from that you have the correct machine for the surroundings you are detecting in
From what i gather they excell even more in wet sand
When you are right no one remembers; when you are wrong no one forgets

The trade off with all the digging is the depth these machines can hit and the fact it can punch through wet sand that other machines would faint at

Most machines cope reasonably well on dry sand I believe, with the PI really coming into its own on wet sand. I used a Vallon for a few months this summer and it too uses PI without discrimination. At full sensitivity it will have you digging deep holes for small pieces of rust. You can with practice distinguish between different sized targets and focus on coin sized hits like bottle tops and ring pulls, as well as lots of coins. I think the Vallon may give you more machine per £ if you want a PI detector for the beach.

Vallon machines are military grade pi detectors. Very heavy I believe. I was going to get a cs4pi as I mostly detect the beach but couldn't find one at the time. They aren't waterproof though but as said, excellent on the beach especially wet sand. I've got a sea hunter which is a pi machine too but fully waterproof as its a diving detector. But if your never gonna be wading or under water then the CS4PI is ideal. Be aware that pi detectors are only good on the beach not inland pasture. I've also got a minelab explorer se which are ideal for beach AND inland and a Quest Q40.
Minelab Excal II
Minelab Explorer SE
Quest Q40 raptor coil
Garrett Sea Hunter mark 2
Garrett Pro pointer
Detecknix pinpointer
Evolution trowel
Short handle sand scoop
Evolution Type R sand scoop
Cheap spade
Builders leather nail/finds pouch
