No idea as i dont own a Makro machine,but gold can vary by a big margin depending on the gold content in the item,gold did not have a 'gold standard' till recent times,but say a gold ring or coin from say saxon/roman times may not produce the same target i.d as a gold coin either older or newer.

The only real way and give some indication is by placing a wedding ring or something that you can then get a basic guide line target i.d from down on the ground and past the coil over,then try and remember what the target i.d and audio tells you.
The difference between perception and reality can be vast indeed.

Depends so many variable

Diameter, thickness, cracked, near iron/coke, orientation and so on.

Manual says its 38 - 55 but a gold ring was posted on here at 72.

Ground makes the big difference. Depending on how it ground balances it will move the scale up or down.

Ring pulls generally come out at 35 - 50 so if you are digging ring pulls you will not be missing gold.

Does mean you can't just look for gold and discriminate everything else out.

My 9g 22ct one came out at 72 on my f75 rings by their shape come out higher than the same weight in gold in non ring form IE a 5 g earing came out as foil
On the gold racer the earing comes out as foil ,a thin chain as iron and again the ring up in the 60's
Unfortunately its a case of digging everything there is no definitive gold region

Probably the most likely gold coin you'll find is a half-sovereign, which read identically to a modern 20p coin. At the lower end of the 'conductivity' scale, thin ladies rings can, and frequently do, read lower down than a small cupro-nickel 5p coin.

Have had 2 gold rings with the original Racer.
One 22 carat, and the other 9 carat.
Both gave a signal of 62 in 3 tone, gain at 85.
Also a gold half sovereign, and that was also at 62 with the same settings.
All on different ground, and different depths. Normally signals in that range turn out to be lead.
I hope that helps

Bug*er - there was me expecting the readings in the 40's to be steel or at least Iron based! 8-}

Bypassed two signals in that range yesterday thinking it would be more modern junk......D'oh rl;

Thanks for the heads-up; I'll be digging those 40's from now on!

Too many variables for most machines to come up with a consistent "Gold" reading.
If you think you can wander around "just digging gold" you will get bored very quickly!!

Start defining between ferrous & non-ferrous first. Gold, silver & lead will all come in fairly close.....periodic table & all that lark! ;)
