minelab musketeer /18" x 15" .deep digging experience.

Post by GC-1023 » Sat Nov 28, 2015 10:47 am

Just took delivery of my sef 18" x 15" for the musketeer and decided to test it on a bit of pasture i thought i had hammered with the gf2/tiger combo .
I located 10 signals and marked spots .then checked what the gf2 was telling me on full whack .
it hit all of them but only half would have been diggers had i gone over them with gf2.

First hole was a small squarish piece of iron, and i thought here we go ,most will be iron .

out of 10 signals 7 were non ferous , .13" deep ,12"deep,9" deep down to 6" deep tiny musket ball.
with such good depth on lead objects i cant wait to pass over some milled silver .
this new coil is a beast .
i have made a video with mobile phone ,showing the huge depths ,and also my box mounting modification to make the musky balance correctly .

I still own a Musky as well,a very underrated machine, although i dont use it as a everday machine but i do use still use it for river detecting of course not submersible, but wear the control box around my neck and using a straight rod with a tallman bottom rod as this gives me the extra depth without requiring it to be waterproof and using the smaller 7.5'' coil to reduce water drag,i founf the 10'' coil a bit on the heavy side.

These machines are pretty deep and i am pretty certain that is because they run a low Khz and will give some more modern machines a run for the money, had mine about12 years and still going strong ::g
Just a lurker these days.

A very capable and deep machine. Des Dunne always rated it as one of the better ML machines.
A friend of mine uses one with the small 71/2" coil and it always amazes me the depth he gets. You wont miss any silver with that set up.
Only thing I don't like is the forward handle angle on that S shaft feels all wrong for me personally and them coils are not the lightest. A straight shaft with right angle handle would be better balanced with the control box mounted as is.

It certainly holds its own against and modern machine out there for depth. Good luck with it.

it turns out the coil is 18 x15 ,not 12 x15.
which makes the £70 even better deal.
so the very small musket ball at 6" seems good result for such a huge coil.
i wondered why it was 260gr heavier than the std 10" coil.
my target is a coin from 13"+ in next 30 days .
