Minelab Explorer or Sovereign GT?

Post by francis » Thu Feb 01, 2018 12:27 pm

Would love to hear folks opinions on the above question?
I know the Explorer series is a step up from the sovereign series, but
Are they really that much better?
Thanks. ::g

The Minelab Explorer11/SE etc range was at one time and only a few years back the most popular detector on the planet,in a totally different league from the Sovereign models.

They became the most popular because they are that good,Sovereigns are great on the beach both wet and dry but the Explorer is not only good on the beach but also inland as well.

The Explorer was the deeper machine by far on both
land and beaches but was seriously painful to use with a large coil on, at least the sovereign could be hip mounted. Both machines are now only available secondhand and some repairs may be problematic. :D

Used both the sov and explorer, and prefer the explorer ::g
sov has slow recovery speed

Thanks for the replies folks, I don't know why I haven't replied to this sooner, apologies! rl;
I had to get rid of the explorer earlier in the year as I just couldn't go detecting two days in row with it, due to the weight. Plus I suppose I always fancied having a go with a SovGT, and got the chance of purchasing a mint one.
I use it hip mounted and am chuffed to bits with it. I reckon I will upgrade it with a straight carbon fibre shaft though as I'm not a fan of the S-shaft.

Hi...on my own experience...nothing better than a GT...(it's a bit heavy) but on the beach...it's the best yet....and on pastures...it's also very impressive !!...good luck,and I hope this helps,..and as always.
Good hunting..👍

The Explorer was the dogs danglies in its day.

If you were able to have gone to the MLO sites years ago it was a really popular and successful detector.

One of our best known detectorists still owns one and swears by it, even though he has the choice of many other detectors.

Hope this helps you Jerry.

Happy Hunting,

Jerry.
