Yesterdays Annual finds Display for a Somerset Village.

Post by JBM » Sun Jul 08, 2018 11:25 am

once again I have borrowed the farmers boxes for the annual fete day and the Locals folks and visitors get really excited.

Its nice for them to have a hands session with the finds that have been left behind by others over the last 2000 years.

Its a sure way to get plenty of land to research and detect.

This year there were over 500 finds which kept myself and my son Tim rather busy.

Happy Hunting,

Jerry

Always good to give something back as appreciation to landowners, our club do two agricultural shows a year, rarely acquire permissions, but worthwhile to interact with the public.

Great display Jerry such a good idea to promote our hobby in a good way.

Many years ago we put a similar display on at Conisbrough Castle with the Doncaster Detector & Collectors Club that included the great collection of Malcolm Jubb and my beach finds display case and various detectors. We had loads of interest from visitors and I even managed to get a photo of the Lord Mayor illegally using a detector on the grass of the Inner Bailey =))

Thanks guys.

We get a lot of bad press these days especially now we have the internet.

Thank goodness many farmers have not lost the faith, but are understandably wary.

Sometimes the old ways and methods still stand good and are worth following.

Happy Hunting,

Jerry.

I am currently writing up a short piece for my local Parish Council after they gave permission to search on Council owned land. It is a brief history of the village as described by local finds. I split the finds into 10 categories, e.g. Roman, Coins, Bells, Buttons, Lead etc. and give a short description of each. When complete it is to go on the PC website.

Several of the Parish Councillors are Farmers so this should help with further permissions too :)

Excellent Jerry, ::g An illustrated display where the public can interact and ask questions of an experienced detectorist, better serves the hobby than any other form of introduction to our hobby.
If there was an award to be made, your's would justifiably be the oft referred to 'Ambassador' to the hobby. Top job mate ::g Regards ss47

Thanks again folks.

One farmer with plenty of land once said to me "Jerry you will not live long enough for all the land coming your way."

It would be nice to think that my experience is repeated by others in the years to come.

There is a lot of satisfaction for all concerned from sharing.

Happy Hunting,

Jerry. ::g
