Landowners display frame
A little project I have been working recently and just managed to finish this today . A quick dash to the picture framers who supplied the frame and mounts and was happy enough for me to do all the fitting . Fiddly old job so I can well understand him leaving the task for me to contend with .
The artwork was a challenge , I had to photograph the actual coin and then blow it up and print off just so these old eyes could make out the detail . I think these old Hammered coins are fascinating , the depth of detail is quite remarkable and how some of them survive without being worn smooth and devoid of any distinguishing marks is beyond me .
This is not a solo project , the coin was kindly donated by a club member who was happy enough to give something back to the Landowner who very kindly allows the Club the use of his Land . As a club member I also benefit from the use of the land when rallies are held there and apart from the cost of the frame , the artwork etc was donated .
The artwork itself was one of those relaxed pick up and put downable tasks so nice and steady when the mood took me plus I was eager to try out this new blending stick which allows you to blend in the shades of graphite which works well when drawing coins .
For those interested artwork drawn onto artists Bristol Board , very nice smooth surface art board ideal for pencil work .
0.5 fine line technical drawing pencil in HB , ideal for those tricky bits of detail and soft shading .
Darker shades in graphite pencil by Faber Castell , both "B" and "2B" grades .
To soften things up a bit I used a pointed blending stick which if used sparingly allows you to smudge and blend in the shades and also allows you to enhance the highlights that these beautiful coins can give with their detail .
I have deliberately masked out the location for obvious reasons but with the actual coin set in above which ties in with the details of the coin etc below to add that extra little bit of historical detail .

A lovely idea and beautifully created. The landowner can only be utterly impressed. Even beats a bottle, which is a 'usual' at Christmas.
A work of art.

This is a brilliant example of taking a 'personal touch' to the highest level. Excellent

Well done KB!
It's a great thing to do for landowners, they always appreciate it. Helps to keep us in a good light too!
