Displaying your finds..build your own

Post by roamingrob » Sun Jul 17, 2016 9:00 pm

Hi all, Thought I would share this one with you. I have been detecting and making finds for over 6 years now. I get a real mix of items, and have been lucky to have detected on a couple of rallies
and on friends permission's. For some time I wanted to get some of the finds out on display But could not find the right display cabinet, or the cost was to much. So with last week off work I decided to make my own. I got the wood, hardboard, wood stain, fixings from a local D.I.Y store for around £30
it took 3 days in total and is wall mounted above my writing desk which hold most of my detecting cases and items. Its a working progress on the actual display of the items, but at least they are out of the draws. Thanks for looking Rob

Very nice Rob, it has a museum look about it. Has given me some ideas, I've got quite a small house and I'd have to make mine acceptable for the missus to look at. ::g

Sorry just read my post again, made it sound like yours wasn't acceptable to my missus. Not what I meant at all. Just that my wood working skills are a little basic ::g

Thank's CD, I gave it a lot of thought and mine also had the pass the wife approval test ::g I have been working on a project with a Society that has restored and operate a working windmill which was built in 1797 . its a popular visitor attraction in my area and has even been visited by Royalty.. I have a display there which they have done for me with finds from around the old mill. That gave me the idea.
The good thing is if you build your own it can be any size to fit you space you have.
Thank's again Rob

I have been wanting to build my own display cabinets too, like box cabinets for the wall, I was going to go down the same route and then put persplex on the front, for smaller items, I just have to work out how to put the little shelves in without fittings, which I think I need to invest in a router for.

It looks nice though, good job.

Thanks mate.. I am one lucky duck ! I have been detecting for six and a half years now Most of my permissions have not been done before and I do find a lot of items. I have returned a lot of items to the land owner and farmers and have a display in a local visitor center. I am writing a book on the village I am near to, and look to detect the areas talked about in old local history books. I have 30 permissions in that area alone. I do go out a lot as I work part time these days. I also visit other areas
as said very lucky. Feel free to have a look if you like http://www.roamingrob.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ::g
