straight shaft or crooked

Post by johntm » Thu Feb 23, 2017 9:27 am

hi all, almost on the verge of buying the new 6mxi,but are they still available with the original crooked shaft, the reason i ask is that although the straight shaft might give better balence, the crooked shaft would keep the machine off the ground, and the control book clean.
any thoughts on this.

explorer 2,and gold maxx power.

For me it would have to be a straight shaft every time, never liked the 'horrible' S shaped shafts, not really sure what you mean about the benefits that the S haft offers over the straight shaft ?? most of my detectors have either straight shafts from new or been mounted on carbon fibre ones, can be much lighter and also much easier too swing.

Of course we all do it differently and have our own preferences.

Bit of a personal question that one! Mine's not perfectly straight but I have two children so doesn't matter in my book. :)) ::g

I had the 6mxi for about 6 months,it was on a the s shaft but control box rear of elbow mounted. Fantastic machine really sharp on targets but the balance was absolutely terrible, the straight shaft wasn't an option then so I sold the machine on..Bas.

"whats suits one will not necessarily suit another"
this must come into play here, i have the cs6mxi on the old crooked shaft and absolutely love it and would not be interested in the straight shaft especially after handling a new one only last week. i have the control box mounted forward as well, pinpoint switch is easily accessable. Everyone one to their own,it would be boring if we all liked the same things in life !!
really good, well built, underrated machine in my opinion.
So crooked shaft for me!

Options are:- Fit control box covers and consider a DIY stand to suit - Job done, simple and inexpensive! Regards ss47

This is my mate Ron's mod:

Here is my modification I carried out on my 6mxi I have mounted it on a Golden Mask telescope stem for easy transportation I can now fit it in a backpack.
