MDF doings at the Forum dig

Post by thefiggis » Fri Sep 14, 2018 5:13 pm

What ho,

We propose to knock up something of an informal MDF gin palace by way of a focal point, with a few tables and chairs to chew the cud, exaggerate our finds rates and generally have a natter etc. This won't be permanently manned (or womanned) but will be somewhere we can all drop in to, any time, as and when the urge takes us. We'll find a way of getting the meeting point location announced, probably at the Saturday morning briefing. Or you can just follow the sound of drunken revelry.

The only planned activity we have as part of our presence will be a group pic, a cake-eating competition and a lion tamer*. Oxgirl will be bringing the cake and Blackadder won't be bringing his jelly beans. This is planned to take place at 16.00 on the Saturday. Again, totally informal and the only rule is no name badge, no cake. In fact, anyone without a name badge will be tied to a chair** and have cake eaten at them until they cry.

Looking forward to seeing you all there, and if the plans are refined or changed we'll let you know.

Pip pip ::g

Edit : meet at the barn at 4pm

*One of these is a lie.
** Not the one used for lion taming, obviously.

Essential equipment:
Some sort of electrical gubbins(I'm told it's a Deus). In various colours
Jenkins
Gin.

My own custard tends to be a little on the thin and watery side.

Mind you, Jenkins does tend to overdo one of the ingredients somewhat. Namely the gin.

oh this is making me homesick .... :( Detecting AND cake. (Proper cake not these naff bits of pastry with a blob of mousse on top we get over here.)
I would so love to have finally met you all ...and son lives in Wotton under Edge so very close and convenient. I went to the Cirencester museum when I was over in June and it was excellent. Never seen so many mosaics all in one place.

Fingers crossed we will be coming back home to live in time for next year's bash.....and then we can help with the cake side of things. (Me baking, hubby eating) :))

I do have a soft-spot for the dear old Jenkins but his eyesight is a tad off centre of late, put mustard on her ladyship's apple pie at the last ladies dinner night! Talk about hot stuff! Oh well, this is bound to be a much better organised bash and with cake I hear........ perchance with the lemony drizzle stuff, can't wait -=+:-P

What do you mean, "a tad off centre"? The poor chap's got the most ferocious squint you've ever seen and you can never tell if he's looking at you or next Tuesday. Invariably it's both.

Absolutely understood, and in fact It's due to his unfortunate countenance that I played it down by a good margin and decided diplomacy was best deployed to the full. As I say a soft spot for the dear chap and I might add that his gin mixers are simply beyond reproach. Damn well trained I say!

Confidentially, so please do not tell anybody, I heard that Oxgirl is much too busy to make any cake. As a result there can not be a cake-eating competition, therefore obviously that is the lie.

Out of interest who is the lion tamer out of the mods?.

If I told you that, I'd have to kill you. I could tell you who the lion is but then I'd be killed. Therefore, in the interests of maintaining the forum population at full strength, best we keep schtum on the matter and talk about cake. ::g :D

I will have a cake eating competition with myself over the next 24 hours. LOL

I asked the ladies if I could take some home.

I gave them some money with that in mind they supplied me with a box containing some excellent examples of how cakes should look and taste.

My wife will not make cakes as i have no will power with regards eating them.

At my time of life what the hell. ;) ::g

Jerry.

Sorry guys I got mixed up with the Rodney Cook dig this weekend.

The cakes were as wonderful as the company. Have had to refrain from dinner this evening though, not only because of the calories but because my teeth are still welded together by all the bloody jelly beans! :D

I was good to meet everyone, made even better given the scrumptious chocolate cake. The only thing more moist than the cake was the weather conditions.... and my clothes...
Good luck for today, happy hunting. ::g

It was good to see some forum members including the mods, but a massive appology to all the forum members who were there that I did not meet.

Yesterday after lunch it was a toss up if I went out again or not, but determined to break my allergic reaction to Roman coins I decided I would go out and brave the elements again (who said there is no fool like an old fool?). So I headed for a field where I knew a lot of Roman coins, admittedly mainly grots, had been found in the morning. Being new to the Nox I had tested it on 3 Roman coins on Friday evening, 2 gave a fairly solid 13 and one a bouncy 17.
Four good signals: 2 nice solid TIDs of 13 ... 2 buttons to add to the collection (about 10 for the weekend). The other two were not such a solid TID but bounced around 17 ..... both lead B| B|

So by 3:00 I was wet, stupidly as fairly warm I had worn a "showerproof" lighter jacket rather than a heavy and waterproof one, cold due to being wet and very tired (mods might have deleted word I would have used instead of tired!) due to the 10lb of mud on each boot so decided to head home and dry off rather than joining you for the cakes (which looked very tempting Cath) and photoshoot.

I hope that all forum members that went made good finds and enjoyed the weekend despite the weather. Hopefully I will meet more of you in the future.

Evan
