Temporary suspension of the Finds ID section

Post by MDFAdmin »

In line with government advice, detecting should not be taking place during the present partial lockdown, yet we have seen some ID requests for finds made since the current rules were announced.

Therefore, and with regret, we have decided to temporarily suspend the Finds ID section as we, along with many of you, believe that such finds should not have been made in the first place. This might be harsh on those of you who would like an ID on finds made before the lockdown, but in the last couple of days we've had several topics started on very recent finds and with the probability of that number rising because of those determined to interpret the rules for their own benefit, we simply will not have time to police them all.

We're working on alternative measures which will enable us to re-open the section if we can and will be reviewing the situation on a daily basis. We will of course keep you fully updated.

Sorry, and hope you all understand.

The Admin Team.

Bumping topic for anyone that missed this ::g
Please remember its no longer possible to post ID requests in the ID Forum, you can however still reply to presents requests already posted ::g

Please remember not to use the Stories /Finds Forum/General Chat to ask for ID requests as your topics will be removed.

Thanks all

From another thread:
Would it be possible to have a sub site thats about Identifying odd finds from our Finds tin, that I (and others), are finally getting round to reviewing?
I agree - no doubt mrix et al are thinking about this - I guess most of us are going though old finds, cleaning them up and wondering what they are - we do need a 'Past finds ID' section
The situation is constantly under review and last night's discussion was mostly about old finds and how to accommodate them. The problem with a new section would be that the same ID rules would need to apply and all you'd end up with is the Finds ID section under another name. We might just as well re-open Finds ID with an additional rule that the find must have been made before the lockdown, and while we know most will honour that there will be those that won't. Last night we removed two ID requests for detected items found yesterday. x;

We'd love to re-open Finds ID and you can rest assured that we'll do so as soon as we possibly can. We're rummaging through our old stuff too, you know! :D ::g
