Bump Beep

Post by oyfire45 » Sat Apr 14, 2018 2:42 pm

Hi, all. Have new Q20 for about 2 weeks now. I really like it found large cent, silver diner, 4 tokens. But yesterday it started bump beeping when hitting small sticks& weeds. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Oyfire45 - All coils are pretty sensitive and will usually complain by giving you a false signal if the coil hits the ground, or stick, rock, or other solid object. if you're detecting in an area such as a corn stubble, woodland, uneven ground, etc, you can expect to hit a few things with the coil and get those signals.

You could try lowering the sensitivity a little but I think it all depends on the conditions you're in.

your coil bolt is to tight, this is something i found out after much frustration. should be just tight enough to hold the coil in position whilst tipping the machine up and down up and down, if you get what i mean. this and the q40 i own are VERY sensitive machines, but this will help.

As well as checking that your coil bolt isn't too tight also check that you don't have movement in the lower end of the coil cable. Perhaps two reusable cable ties place strategically round the lower shaft and cable will stop any waggling and reduce some falsing.

Thanks all I gess I have a lot of iron in my diet. Cause tapping with finger will make it chirp. Sensitivity set below 50. Didn't do this last week.

yup, I've read on the Quest UK FB that loosen the coil bolt should do the work, at least it worked as been reported. But I am always standing up my Q40 while do digging, I need a firm holding coil as stand.

Yep I'll loosen the coil bolt. I shouldn't of used my air impact to 150 foot pounds.

I ran into this issue on my q40 this weekend. I tried everything to get it to settle down again with zero results. Finally came to the conclusion to factory reset it and PRESTO! Solid as a rock again. Not sure what causes this, but resetting in once in a blue moon is no biggy if the performance is there. Hope it helps!

Factory reset is volume down and hold M. All the best!

No idea if this is relevant to your detector, but a too lower ground balance will generally cause that issue also. x;

I think you are right EasyLife! Mine was bump beeping when it hit a spider web and the GB was at 54 when generally it should have been 80-85. Reset only helped because it bumped up the GB. Nice to know the culprit. Good call!
