First Hammered on my Quest Q40

Post by Midlifecyclist » Tue Oct 10, 2017 9:59 pm

Not only my first hammered on my Quest Q40, but my first hammered ever!

A great day with the Southern Detectorists in Dorset today and I dug what I believe is an ELIZABETH 1st SILVER HALFGROAT.

If anyone knows the date I'd be grateful.

I also dug two coins fused together, no obvious markings but will try and clean them up and separate them. A Muskett ball, buttons, the top of a thimble and various other bits and bobs!

I had the detector in coin mode and it gave off a nice crisp beep, I think it was 58 or 61 on the meter, I was so excited I didn't check :-)

Must be beginners luck!

C'mon midlifecyclist put poor old mudman out of his misery, how deep was it :D
The Q40 does seem to be deeper than my Ace 250 that's for sure.
Lovely find ::g

Yeah come on show me the money :D To be honest I am not a depth freak I just want to know the Quest stands up to other machines at the price point and is respectable on targets with a bit of depth, I have a 400i and if it matches that I would be happy. I want a wireless second machine straight out the box, the Tangra UK looks good but also thinking of the Quest.

About 7 or 8 inches down @Mud Max

I'll try and stay a bit more focused on depths and settings and record them, at the moment I get a bit over excited when something interesting pops out of the ground and I'm focused on the precious things rather than the techy things [:)

That's pretty impressive on a hammered mate, and many thanks for the feedback. A lot of machines have depth but they are so chatty that you can't use it. Being able to run a machine stable and still get good depth is what makes a good detector in some ways, along with good separation of course. Did you use the larger coil?

I've just got the standard coil @Mud Max

I've got a few more digs lined up over the coming weeks so I'll try and take a few photos of settings and depths.

I might even bury the Lizzy in my garden and do some reinactments!

I would be handy to get a feel for what settings pick it up best.

That's a great idea mate. If you dug solid plugs you have undisturbed soil above your targets. You will get some great feedback on allsorts. You never know, you may amaze us all with some of the depths too! So far it's all looking very good for the Q40.
